undoubtedly he'll be able to talk to you given he is out of the basic training phase. But, because he is specializing in security forces he will undoubtedly be spending a good chunk of time in the field. During those peroids he will probably have no opportunity to contact you. He should be able to provide you with an address and a generalized time line when you can expect him to call. I dont think trying calling him might work out so well. Esp if he has limited study time off duty hours etc. Send some home made cookies to share with his squad.

It has been a while. But, It not a Cake Walk it the Military and he will survive with a lot of stories to tell you. Usually at the end of the day they have a few minutes to go outside where they can Smoke, Coke Machine maybe Candy and Chips. AND Phones!!! So, it may take a while for him to call at first as everyone be trying to call and he may not get a phone before he have to go back inside. He will have time to get a letter off within a few days. Basic is hard but as I said he survive and learn to eat fast! Ha! Tech School is a little more slack and he can go off base. Has a little more Freedom. Then depending on his job, his Base after school like a regular job.
One more thing; When you see him in his Dress Blues.......... You will want to give him Kisses.

Ah well it has changed over the last few years I have heard.
But the first week you pretty much just shut off and follow direction.
They get you SOooo tired then process you...get your paper work squared away, get uniforms, remove your hair, and take anything that reminds you of home.
The first week you can make 1 call to your family and give an address. But it may be 2 weeks before you can talk to him again.

Well it might not be a problem in his basic training - but when he goes off-world to the various different star systems via the Stargate - he'll probably be incomunicado !
