There, you will find a map showing where the Rio Grande River lies, from its origin in Southern Colorado, through New Mexico, and down the Southern border of Texas to the river's mouth, which is at the Gulf of Mexico.
As to whether you want to say that New Mexico is actually "across the Rio Grande River from Mexico," I'll leave that up to you. (Colorado is not bordered on Mexico, so cannot be included in your statement.)
