The baby swing. Oh yeah. That was a mind and life saver, especially with the second. Each of them loved to swing as small infants, and I could put them in there, set it near me and actually manage to do a chore or two!
Books are second.

For a baby, the best gift that was given to me was the fisher price aquarium thing that you hang on the side of the crib. It has ocean sounds or music and it lights up. Such a life saver!
When the kids get older, my absolute must-have was an Exersaucer. They are a little pricey (the good ones) but worth every penny because they entertain the baby long enough for you to get a moment of peace to yourself.

My Maya Wrap ring sling. No question, no contest. I've gotten SO much use out of that- her papa is STILL carting her around in it at 13 months.
Even though I don't use it anymore (she's too heavy for me to use a ring sling) it did start me getting used to wearing my baby, and got me started learning about other carriers (I use a wrap, now).
Second thing would be the breastpump- vitally important, since I was going back to work.
I tried to think of a third thing, but most of the baby stuff we got didn't get used- she didn't like her swing, the exersaucer was for later and was short-lived... the wipes warmer was great (a necessity for cold mornings) but not in the class you're talking about.
Yeah, DEFINITELY the sling, for us. It made our lives so much easier- I can't imagine having to try to fuss with a stroller now.

the bouncer. it was a life saver. when my ten month old was first born she had colic and the only thing that would keep her asleep when she finally passed out was her vibrating bouncer. and the funny thing is, that was the cheapest thing I bought. I got it on sale for 13 dollars. everything else I spend a fortune on and she didn't care for any of it. the other thing that was a god send were recieving blankets! the one thing that was given to me that made me smile was a teddy bear jumper. it was given to my three year old when she was a baby, it was pink and had a hood on it with teddy ears and it was so cute on her.
the one thing that got it's moneys worth was the crib I bought my first daughter. it was 200 hundred dollars and it was a three in one crib. after she was done with the crib part it turned into a toddler bed, then when she was ready for a big bed we turned it back into a crib for our second daughter. after three and a half years of use and two children jumping around in it and two moves it's still as sound as the day we bought it. nothing like GRACO!

My mom actually made a white sleeper for the baby similar but better than the gown they dress newborns in. It made me smile and cry in the most beatutiful way. It's from my mom, it's one of a kind and I'll keep it forever. The nursing pillow helped me alot because when breastfeeding new moms have alot of pain and strain from all types of births and it makes breastfeeding much easier for mommy and baby. The pillow was from a friend and I didn't know how much I would need it and I did need it.

I bought the Rockin' Aquarium Gym - My baby loves the toy fishes that come with it (the gym itself isn't a hit). It's the first rattle and toy that really caught her attention and it's the first toy she reached out and grabbed! I went to the Fisher-Price websit and bought replacement toy pieces to get an extra set of the two fish since she likes them so much.
The other thing we couldn't have done without is a big exercise ball that we would bounce on while holding her. She wasn't a fan of her swing, but after two bounces she'd be relaxed and after 5 minutes she'd be asleep (though if you stopped bouncing she'd immediately wake up).

Definitely the swing. Helped soothe the baby when we couldn't.
What I loved during the first few months of parenthood was how precious this little person was and how amazing it was to have given birth to such a miracle.

The best thing I ever purchased was the Arm's reach co-sleeper. It saved me so much sleep time. For my first child I would be up all night sitting over the side of the bassinet. Not this time! I loved it! Take a look. I bought mine here: http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-2142836-10441817

The Evenflo-Snugli baby carrier!! The best thing in the world when traveling with a little baby and all their baby bags is to not have to push that big stroller around. Just put them in the carrier on your torso and keep on going. It also helps to have the baby bags that fit on your back like a backpack. Have fun, mom :)

Well, as far as easier goes I got "the ultimate crib sheet" (babies R Us) and it was so awesome because it's waterproof, goes over the pretty bedding, secures around the rails of the crib. You can change a soiled sheet super quick wtihout removing the bumpers or doing anything hard.
As far as special goes, I always keep my babies in Robeez booties. we have tile floor and these little leather slippers are soft, warm, washable, and SO DARN CUTE! Love 'em, worth every penny of the $30 or so.
