when I press down on the brakes. Recently, the mechanie checked out and even drove the car, and did something to the brakes - and it was Still noisy. The mechanic said he couldn't hear a thing. My friend who drove with me even heard it.

Then I put transmission oil in where it was supposed to go under the hood. NO more noise and the gages worked all day, and even for a few days. Drove the car today and the gages didn't work.
What or is there a corelation ? Baffled. I have a dogde neon 96.

The transmission, brakes, and guages are all different systems. You likely have 3 different problems. 1.) Squeaking tires? Most likely, you need "disc quiet" on the back of your brake pads. Ask your mechanic about it, and have him/her inspect the brake pads and brake rotors. 2.) Transmission fluid will not help your guages operate any better. The good news is that it won't hurt anything either. BUT! Chrysler products have problems with the ALTERNATOR in the charging/electrical system. Have yours checked, because that COULD affect how well your guages work. Also, the vehicle speed sensor could affect your guages...Also, the "Voltage Limiter" on the back of your instrument cluster behind your guages could be faulty. Again, for a Chrysler product, go to a Chrysler dealership shop. They have the tools, the factory repair manuals, and the factory trained technicians to diagnose Chrysler cars! Neons were made in Belvedere Illinois....If you ever saw the guys who MADE them, you'd know why you have to take them to Chrysler to get them fixed right! (Just kidding!)

The dashboard don't work, 96 neon? Myt wife 98 Neon does the same thing. It is a blow circuit board. I just don't have 700 dollars to fix that yet. The way told her to do it. When it is not working, hit it on top of the dashboad (don't laugh, it work 80% of the time) and if it did not work, try to hit it from the side, the back. She had been doing that for 6 months now. I just don't want to put more money into this car. And they do not sell the circuit board anywhere else. Also, is that the front or rear break that is noise. My wife Neon had noise brake too, it is normal if you have pad. It is just that the brake pad did not fit perfectly and if you want to eliminate the noise, you could take it back to the dealer and they could fix it for you. It give me an estimiate of 450 dollars for all four brake, front disc and rear drum. So, I just told her to deal with it. One thing good about Neon, even with all those little problem, the car still run. It is not convinence, but I will deal with it because it cost too much to repair. Good luck
