Are there any myths that the size of your baby depends on big you or your husband were at birth?

I was just wondering because my mother-in-law told me that my husband was 10.8 pounds at birth. I was only 4 pounds. But the 10.8 scares me and this is my first pregnancy.

yes I was told by my doc. that it does play some role. I was 8.5 pounds and my husband was only 4, but he was 2 months premature. His mom said if he would have went to full term he would have been 8 or 9 lbs. I am 35 weeks and my doc. is already telling me he will be 8.5 to 9lbs by what they can tell. I am 35 weeks measuring at 39 cm. lol I look like a whale.

hey, Yes it does play a part in the size of your baby. Usually your baby will be abit bigger than the father was at birth. My husband was 8Ib 15 when he was born and my little boy was 9Ib 7 when i had him a year ago. I was stressing out the same as you were aswell because they i was always bigger in measurement when they measure your tummy(uterus) and i even had to have another ultrasound at 34 weeks because of the babies size.. as if that didnt worry me enough! then at the ultrasound they told me that my babies head was the size of a 40 week old baby!!!! So heres me with 6 weeks to go and i was just crying and crying cuz i thought i couldnt do it! My little boy ended up coming right on the day he was due, thank god! and he was pretty big, but im just lucky i didnt go over!
Your baby will only grow to the size that your body can handle though, and if he ends up being too big for you to have vaginally then you will have to have a cesarean. I had my son vaginally with the help of a vacuum extraction. ...and an epidural!
The epidurals are great by the way, i really dont know how i wouldve gone without one. They dont hurt the baby at all and they dont even hurt getting the epidural put in so theres no need to worry about that.
Signs that your baby will be big is your uterus measuring a few weeks ahead of your dates. but dont worry you will do fine even if he is big! I did fine and i would do it all again! Goodluck and try no t to worry too much, when you are in labour and pushing the baby out, the last thing you will be thinking of is his size and you wont even know that he is big until you see him!

i am sure it is just myths. i was 7 lbs 6 ounces. my husband was 4 lbs 5 ounces and our little guy was 5 lbs 6 ounces.
my mom had 6 kids and we were all in the 7 lbs range except for one brother right in the middle who was over 10 lbs. i just think each one is different. try not to stress too much about it.
i also measured big the whole time. i had my guy at 37 weeks (a bit early) but was measuring 41 cm at the time. I was anywhere from 3-4 cm bigger than I should have been!

You could possibly have a larger baby, but there are other factors involved. My husband and I were both just under 7 1/2 lbs, but my daughter was only 5lbs when born. She is still a little petite at 16 months, but super cute! So don't worry it'll be fine. Even if it's a big baby, there's always an epidural. Use it, love it, and enjoy!

yes genetics do play a role in the size of your baby some people need to do some more research on this matter genetics are genetics for a reason hey i was 9.2 born dear husband was 9.8 my 2 dd where 8lb9oz first born and second born was 8lb14.5oz and she was 12 days early so maybe your baby will be somewhere in between yours and dh.you dont want bubby to small anyway people claim these babies are more difficult you want them nice big and healthy.its true your body will not create something that is to big for your own body remember to eat healthy as eating alot of sugar and fat can have some impact on the size of your child particuly in the last few weeks good luck you will be fine.

Your baby wont be anything bigger than what your body can handle. Thats the way mother nature works. Just because he was big doesnt mean the baby will be huge. And visa versa, just cause you were small doesnt mean the baby will be. I was 9lb8oz at birth and my hubby was 7lb6oz. My first born was 9lb2oz and the second was 7lb10oz. Sooo you never know what you are gonna get! Trust me, you will be fine! Good luck! =)

Size is often genetic, and also tied to maternal nutrition during pregnancy. I know 10.8 pounds sounds scary, but I'll tell you straight -- my 7 lb. 12 oz. daughter was a harder birth for me than my 10 lb. 4 oz. son. She had a larger head than he did -- and fat is squishy!

Eat well, relax . . . you won't grow a baby any bigger than what your body can handle and your body was designed to give birth.

i think it might only matter a little. your baby could have genetics of other people in your families. i think what it depends on most is your health during your pregnancy. obviously if you smoke, or are very sick, etc and dont gain what you should your baby will probably be small. but if you over eat or eat very unhealthy things and don't exercise, that could lead to a bigger baby. also, if you have gestational diabetes, usually the babies are bigger.
