I've tried, Lord knows I've tried, but I've never been able to get anywhere with it.
The only story I remember is near the beginning during Tristram's conception, when his mother puts his father off his marital duties by asking him if he remembered to wind the clock.

You can read the nine volumes online at
http://www.tristramshandyweb.it/home.htm
The life and opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman was written by Laurence Stern. It's a story that seems to have so many diversions that Shandy's birth isn't mentioned until volume 3.

No, but I bet the president has. All the names and titles of the Skull and Bones society are taken from Tristam Shandy.

I quite have. yet i do no longer think of there is plenty similarity interior the type. Defoe's is to the factor and Sterne's is intentionally inconsequential. As for TS, the place do you start up? nicely, the place DO you start up?

I have tried reading it twice, but ground to a halt both times. It is always called a "great novel" and maybe it is, but I just cannot see it. My loss.
