The high-end riding mowers are made to last. I have a 40yr old International Harvester Cub Cadet (IH Cub Cadet) that I inherited and it still runs great. IH stopped making cub cadets in the late 1970's and now another company produces them. Their quality is not the same as the old. Many owners of these machines take great care of them thru the years. Checkout the following site to learn about IH cub cadets. There are many models to choose from and this site should have some people selling them.

Do you know what color gold turns when it rusts = a certain shade of green
I see the recommendations for the pricey mowers
but I have had them and others
Murrays (?spelling) and craftsman the better ones not the economy ones last just as long as what the others are passing for quality.
things to consider - get a Briggs engine - the mower (any mower will fall apart around it) you can always get replacement parts.
check how hard it is to get the deck off - JD, the ones they brand under different names, and some Craftsman mowers (depends who makes them for them) , and some others have easy to remove decks. That can come in handy.
Get enough HP and a big enough cut- my current is a Sears
25 HP 52" cut.
Big enough to pull me up my 8' ditches when they are dry (beats weed eating the boogers)
Yes I cut a lot of grass a run the daylights out of them, but I oil grease rinse blow off sharpen blades clean air filters regularly helps them last
One thing my current Sears does not have that would be nice Steel hood- that's why I got the front bumper guard for it does the same thing.

I actually did a survey on this one time.I get to about 200 residential houses a week.So I asked about their mower I was in the market for one at the time.It came down to 2 mowers . 1.John Deere 2.Snapper . I got #1 but I think #2 would have been just as good.I based my decision on service availability. Thanks for the 2 points

If you want it to last, then don't mess around with the crap they sell at Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc. Go to a John Deere, International Harvester, or Husqvarna dealer, and be prepared to pay at least $6,000. Serious machines will work better, and last a lot longer.

No Question...John Deere. Try and find a used one in the paper first though, as they can be sold at a nice discount and they last a long time.

you should envision the owner's guide for the counseled oil. If the guide isn't accessible, examine with the broker. often, maximum backyard tractors use 10W-30 oil in warmth climate, and 5W-30 in chilly climate.
