I can't understand why in my math book 385/165 = 5x7x11/3x5x11
And it doesn't even explain WHY 385/165 was reduced to 5x7x11/3x5x11
Can anyone explain in detail why??

The reaon is for reducing the form into p/q

to site as example 1/2 = 2/4 = 6/12 but in reduced form it is 1/2

when we want to reduce p/q we have to find prime factors of p and that of q(there are other methods) and remove the common factor so that p and q do not have a common factor

in this case 385 = 5* 7 * 11
165 = 3*5* 11

so 385 / 165 = (5*7*11)/(3*5*11) = 7/3 removing 5 and 11 from both

another method is to divide by HCF

HCF(385,165) = HCF(385 MOD 165,165)
= HCF(55. 165) = 55
385 = 55* 7
165= 55* 3
so same result (55*7)/(55*3) or 7/3

385 factors are 5,7,11 that is 5*7*11=385
165 factors are 5,7,11 that is 5*3*11=385
it was reduced so because common factors that is 5,11 cancel out i mean
5*7*11/5*3*11 =7/3
thus reducing the calculation

It reduced it to its smallest factors. (primes) 5,7,11 are all prime.
