Okay...you're all probably gonna read this and think I'm being homophobe...but I am honestly asking this question out of sheer curiosity. I have nothing against gays, lesbians, or the like, but what does get to me (and this is usually with gay males) is how they all act so flamboyant and "gay". The do the whole gay hand gesture thing and have high voices like women, and just act gay. Why are we able to identify someone as gay just by viewing them (and I don't mean all of them!)...but we can usually tell. It's not a race or some physical characteristic, so why do they come out and act different than a straight person?

People like what they like, so we just have to deal.

maybe not a homophobe, but someone who obviously doesn't know many gay people. why? because you're being nothing but stereotypical. most gays and lesbians aren't any more "flamboyant" than straight people. most of us aren't easily recognized as being such by the way we look or act.
you say, you "don't mean all of them." but it's more like MOST of us aren't. you watch too many movies/tv shows with lame, stereotyped gay characters.

Not all gays act like that. You probably know a couple of gay people who act "straight" but they just haven't felt any need to tell you about their sex lives. In my experience, the majority of gays act like everyone else unless they are with others who act stereotypically gay.

Turn your question around and ask yourself this: Why do straight people act so STRAIGHT?

Isn't acting "straight" simply a lazy way of interacting with others? Isn't it all just so boring and bland to never enjoy or celabrate life? Isn't walking around in a haze of similar shades of beige monotonous?

I'm sorry, but I love the fact that the gays you speak of add splashes of color to an otherwise mundane world!

Celabrate Diversity!

Im a lesbian, but have alot of gay male friends. If you broaden your horizens and perhaps go to a gay bar, you will quickly see that not all gay men act flaming, and not all lesbians act like men. There are many "straight looking" gay men and lesbians, trust me. And as far as the ones who do look and act very "gay", thats just how they are. They feel comfortable acting like that. Did you ever think of how gay people think about striaght men? I hate it when I go to a bar and grill and men are hooping and hollering and acting like they are having a testosterone outbreak watching football. I cant even tell you how many times Ive been to striaght bars with my striaght friends and I observe how straight men act and it makes me want to beat there asses. So it really goes both ways I think. Acting striaght, acting gay, its all in how you look at it. We all just need to be ourselves.

The same reason women dye their hair or act less intelligent then they are or dress slutty. Gay men flame so that pretty men will take notice of how femine and lovely they are.

it's just the personality of an individual. it doesn't matter how they act or sound. i have seen things the way people acts and talks but none of it bothers me because there is nothing to complain about. In fact, just because some gays act and speak flamboyantly, it doesn't mean anything. It's just who they are. It's cool to me and i don't know why it bothers you. just let it go already.

People act the way that they naturally want to act- the way their mind programs them to act. Some men are more effeminite and flamboyant, they don't act that way to be funny or whatever- it's just the way they are.

It is the same way with black people talking black. some do and some done. It just happens the ones who don't act gay you don't realize and you end up thinking they all act gay.

You don't recognize the gay men who don't act like this. Many more gay men act just like any other man, and you don't think they are gay.
