running xp, have dsl connection that says it's connected, but i can't get any web pages to open. any help??

Maybe the sites server crashed

go to start menu and click the "run" button. Type "CMD" in this field. This will open a black box with white text. Type "ipconfig" and hit enter. It will display information, look for the ip addresse. If you don't have one then you aren't getting signal from the net/modem. If you do type this "ping www.google.com" it will bounce a signal off of google. If you don't get a response then you have a connection problem, if you do you have a settings issue. Then call somebody with this info and they might be able to help you more.

try to ping outside, in run command type 'ping google.com' if it shows google ip address it's ok. check your explorer setting make any corrections or click on default setting button. it can even be a mis configured firewall which bloked the web site

Are you attempting to connect through a proxy? What about a firewall? Or you might need to contact the ISP.
