If you change your oil every 3500 miles with quality oil and a good filter, depending on your driving conditions and how you drive, your engine will last much longer. Do not neglect ANY of the recommended maintenance, and your car will last up to or beyond it's design limitations. Your owners manual has a list of maintenance items and the milage intervals that each operation should be performed. Stick to that, and you can drive worry free for a long time! I have 5 vehicles ALL with over 150,000 miles each. My old Jeep has 230,000 miles on it and runs strong. I change the oil every 2500 miles or 3 months. (I'm also a mechanic, and do all my own repair and maintenance!)
The Scion is highly rated for engineering. Keep it that way, and keep up the maintenance!

no.mileage its not the only factorthat should be considered to answer this question.the type of oil has a lot to do with it and the time the oil is been in you engine. the reason why it is recomended to change your oil every 3 months ,its because once your oil has been put in your engine and your engine started the oil starts to break down.if you want to get more life out of your car.use synthetic oils. dont race your engine .warm your car until it reaches operating temp.when you first start your car the oil has not thinned enough to be pumped by the oil pump. oil thins as it warms up.

Yes its true alright and 3,500 is max.And if you live in a hot climate ,even sooner.I see a previous answer that says "not if you keep up the maintainance"or words to that effect,Well oil changing IS the maintainance. Do the filter every time too.

For years I have got my oil changed every 3000 miles and never had a problem with the engine...Changing the oil is the lifeline of the automobile engine and it's performance.

That's not the ONLY thing to do, but it helps.
I have a '72, and I change the oil every 4 months.

no. modern so called motor oil contains very little carrier oil. they are almost all additive package, anti friction compounds, anti acid, anti moisture, etc. they will last at least twice that long in normal service.
