Hun I am 36 weeks and doing the same thing. I have been to the Dr 4 times for it and no answer yet. But if I were you I would go to your OB and suggest a 24 hr urine b/c you seriously may have preeclampsia. It is dangerous for you and your baby. It is better to be safe than sorry...go to the doc!!!

Swelling in the last few weeks of pregnancy is normal if it is in the hands and feet. Various anatomical disruptions are taking place and there is pressure constricting venous return etc. The swelling that can be deadly is when your you experience facial swelling. THat is one of about 4 signs of what used to called Preeclampsia. It is now called Hypertensive diseases of Pregnancy, as it is not just one syndrome. This is usually seen in young, first time pregnancies, and more frequntly seen in minority, or poor white populations, frequently living in the Southeastern United States. It can be life threatening. for mother and child but is being monitored much more closely then it was years ago. The 4 things to watch for usuall during your last trimester is a 1) Facial Edema, 2) an elevation of 15 points dyastolic or 30 points systolic from your early pregnacy blood pressure 3) protien in your urine, and finally 4) a hyperkinesis or very sensitive reflexes. This is the last and most telling one. Seizure activity is not far behind. Birth stops this process and usuall the 48 hours after birth are the most dangerous for the mother. New drugs and better care has dropped this complication of pregnancy dramatically over the last 30 years. I do not think your condition is anything to worry about but I do not want to diagnose online. you should alert your Doctor or Nurse mid-wife and see how they feel about how this development might affect your last weeks of pregnancy. Good luck whatever happens.

That doesn't sound too normal. My feet and ankles got pretty swollen towards the end, but if your hands and face are swelling too and it's as bad as you say, you definitely need to call the doctor! Good luck...

Some swelling in pregnancy is normal, however, if you are truly swollen as you describe, you should probably either 1) go to labor and delivery to be evaluated tonight, or 2) call your doctor in the morning for follow-up.

Yah its definately normal. I was really, really swollen after 30 weeks pregnant. It does hurt even to stand on them. I just really tried to stay off them as much as possible, and lower you sodium intake. Salt and top ramen dont eat that stuff. Good Luck. But you have nothing to worry about your almost there.
