I had my daughter by c-section... on Aug.4th.... 8 weeks ago, I am still bleeding enough to fill a super tampon in about an hour or 2.. I didnt bleed alot for the first 4 weeks at about 5 weeks I thought I had started my period bec. it got alot heavier, that has lasted 3 weeks and now it is more but with NO CRAMPS really and I find that at times it is like I am leaking on myself when I dont know I even have to pee, I know this is gross but this is my first pregnancy and I figured I would have already stopped bleeding and everything at 8 weeks but it seems like it just wont go away? Think something is wrong or is 8 weeks normal to bleed? Please hlep I have no idea since this is my first pregnancy

Someone mentioned that early sex could have caused it, And Me and MY husband actually had sex at 4 weeks when I wasnt bleeding heavy barely any at all actually, and have had sex atleast 4 times a week since 4 weeks postpartum, sometimes it is rough but it hasnt hurt and if it did I would have stopped..so you really think that could have caused something?

No, not normal especially after a c-section, usually the bleeding is gone much earlier than a vaginal delivery because they suck out a lot of the blood when the surgery is done. If you are not nursing of course it could be a period, however you said it had never really stopped and that it's been heavy for at least three weeks.

You should have seen your doctor at 2 weeks and 6 weeks, what did thaey say at the six week check when you were still bleeding heavily at that time and hadn't stopped yet???

I hope as someone else said that you have not been having sex or using tampons this early. You may have an infection or retained placental fragment. I'd make an appt right away.

Added to say: I had three vaginal births but my bleeding slowed down after 3-4 weeks with my first, then resumed again and I passed a thing that looked like a bloody peach pit. Turned out it was a chunk of the placenta that had been missed during extraction!

If I were you I wouldn't have sex or use tampons again until the bleeding had stopped and I was sure the postpartum bleeding was normal and resolved and I had resumed a normal menstrual cycle. If you're having enough bleeding to soak a super tampon in a few hours for three weeks that's too much bleeding for any reason. I'd see the doctor within the next few days.

oh good lord. ignore the first poster.

are you breast feeding? that can cause the bleeding to thin out but have a steady lasting stream.

sometimes it just takes a while.

with my first, i was 6 weeks, then i stopped only to actually START my first post birth period the next week. so that is a possibility

with my last one..i went almost 2 1/2 months. and YES that is normal, just like every pregnancy is different so is every recovery.

if there was something wrong..your doc WOULD have said something.
just give your body time to recover.

most docs don't recommend sex until week 6, so perhaps that could have something to do with it, but i doubt it.

why are GUYS answering this? i just read some idiot man's answer "you shouldn't be bleeding at all" he obviously has NO clue. hey idiot....every hear about the "after birth" well, part of all that is to drain the uterus and prepare itself to shrink back up and begin a NEW cycle of periods..that means it needs to clean itself out. BY BLEEDING! OMG....i hope they never breed!

I had my son by c-section and I bled for 5 weeks.
I really hope you're not using a tampon though!!! you really shouldn't be using one!!!
Have you went for your check-up yet? I think you're supposed to go a month and then 2 months after, but I forget.
My doctor told me that I should bleed for 6-8 weeks. If I were you, don't stress too much about it, by the way, stress could cause you to bleed more, but I would go ask your doctor. If you are a heavier female, you are more prone to bleed more.

I remember that I was still bleeding at my checkup- which was after 6 weeks. You have to remember that you child was not pushed out of your vagina, all of the fluids and stuff were not pushed out with contractions. They took out the baby, they sucked excess fluid to keep the field clear, but the blood sis not come out like it does for a vaginal birth. If you are concerned about the amount, you can call and ask your Dr. I am sure it is a question they get all the time. Have you had your check- up?? If not, maybe you should go in, just to be sure. I do not think there is a "normal" amount of time to bleed, but You should be sure your uterus is firming back up. Take care- and congrats!

I was told to expect some bleeding for 6 weeks after a norma birth. A C-section, I would assume would be about the same. It's time to go back to the doctor and find your problem. Possibly you will need a D&C.

I wouldn't panic just call and make an appointment to see your doctor. I bled for 8 weeks with my first baby. And after my second baby I bled for 6 weeks, stopped for about 4 days and then started my period. My period is really heavy now.

yes you can still bleed after having a baby normal or c section..in my case i had my daughtr normal and i bled anywaheres from 6 to 1o weeks, but yes if you are bleeding more than what you were in the beginning i would call your doctor..i bled heavy and then lighter so i am not sure if the heavy part at the end is normal..this was my first pregnancy as well..

first of all i think everyone is different.so if you are really worried
obviously go see your OBGYN.you are experiencing something
totally normal especially if you were having sex at four weeks.
the one thing i would say is stop using tampons and go back to
pads until the bleeding dose stop.P.S. congrats on the baby!!

It is possible that some of the placenta is still in there..or it may depend on your birth control..I got the depo after my 1st child and I bled the whole time that the shot is effective..3 months.

Stop having sex! Stop using tampons! Why would you think you could use a tampon and have sex so soon?
Call your doctor!
