Perhaps not in the same dialectic terms as the star wars tilogy... but on the world stage we have become a very evil empire indeed.
To be evil, as a nation, the majority of individuals in such nation must pledge themselves to a philsophy of exclusion, intolerance, and violence. We have a foreign policy which has been producing evil results- a terrible toll in terms of lives destoryed. We have advocated uniltateral invasions of innocent nations, torture of prisoners, and suspension of human rights for those we deem enemies. We also see an extreme injustice in terms of lives we value (Israeli or American) and lives we do not (Iraqi or Lebanese.) At home, we have become an intolerant and jingoistic society, frequently complaining about the "invasion" of poor immigrant workers seeking a better life. We feel a sense of almost self-righteous reproach at the notion that we are "sparing" the people in Iran from a murderous bombing campaign.. though Iran has done nothing to deserve such threats and pressure. That is just our current state of unpallatables. The sanctions on the Iraqi people, which killed millions in the nineties and resulted in much of the extremism we see today, may have been our most attrocious and evil act in decades.
In all of this, I cannot say whether our motives are evil... but the results are. Perhaps the greatest evils in this nation are not the lies of our politicians (who are too stupid to really figure things out) or the grasp of corporate influence (who buy politicians to create wars), but the apathy, ignorance, and indeed, willful hypocrisy of the majority of americans who demand to live in "freedom" at the cost of the freedom and lives of innocent people elsewhere.

I have thought a lot about this. I have found many similarities between this time period in our country and the fall of the Roman Empire (which I have also found to have connections to Star Wars). We have corrupt rulers, increasing power of the rich, a shrinking of the middle class, the price of the metal in coins has now gone over the value of the coins, and all we have left is to divide the country in half, convert the national religion, move the capital, and get attacked by savage (I guess Canadian) tribes.

No silly rabbits, tricks (like believing Dubya or Cheney is smart enough to be evil) is for kids.
Prop-o-ganda like D & C are evil is designed to get you to give an emotional reaction.
Demo-crazies, ie... if you stick your head in the sand and wish REAL hard, just maybe you won't get poked in the &@...
Are cranking out the Prop-o-ganda...
The not so funny thing is...there is not a hill of beans of difference between Repro-repubs and Demo-crazies.
But real evil is something in a Stephen King novel, our situation is far worse. Stupid, dumb, inept, partisan knee jerk, clown like reactions and decisions to the most critical issues and situations facing civilization.
Waz-gonna happen? Checked my crystal ball at the door...

Do you feel good about yourself calling America evil, you're basically saying the same for yourself. America is evil? How many Jews did we gas? How many Kurds? How many of our own citizens have we killed. An Empire...and evil empire would suppress the media, Bush would be portrayed like he was a God. You have it wrong. and ..you're just stupid. You're no revolutionary, no rebel. Posting on the Internet is reeeal risky you know. I got an idea, wanna be a rebel? Bust into the white house. Blow up a monument. But don't talk tough on the Internet, that's just stupid.

No! America is a great country with great humans. Ok so we got some dumb politicians.
Hillary Clinton is da Fuhrer, the media has surpassed Goebbels, the SS today are angry lesbians, anyone who burps & blames it on disability, RX companies & the unshaven.
The Untermensch are boys & divorced fathers,
Lebensborn has been resurrected via kidnapping children via False Domestic Argueing
laws. Lebensraum continues via Globalization.
The Nu Nazis...coming via a family lawyer near you. If you are an American & call us evil, then
most likely you are a Nu Nazi-the Politically Correct.

Evil personified. I have no doubt that your average American would trample happily through a meadow of dead bodies for a dollar at the end of a blood stained rainbow.

Become? Are we still teaching in school that the founding fathers were all good and perfect people? That those who came over here originally were all peaches and cream? Please. We've always been the way we are, we just now have instant media that tells us about it daily.
On the other hand, we are still one of the better places to be.

Bah.
America is only evil compared to God.
Compared to any other mortal country we are good. You might notice that America is called evil most loudly by dictators.
