Not recommended any earlier than 6 months. I know some people start giving it at 3 months (to get the baby to sleep longer at nights), but I think that's being a bit selfish. The baby really doesn't need it until 6 months... that's what you should stick to.

Ask your child's pediatrician for his or her recommendation for your individual child. Every baby is differnt and depending on how well your baby nurses or takes a bottle, how much weight he or she is gaining, how well he or she can hold their head up, etc. the answer may be different. My doctor gave me the go ahead at my daughter's 4 month check-up. You start with very thinned out rice cereal. So thinned out that it's practically liquid. You can use expressed breastmilk or formula, but like I said at first you will make it very runny. This is just to get your baby used to the idea of eating from a spoon. You would also only do this once a day for a few days and then depending on how well your baby is catching on you would maike it thicker. If your baby doesn't want anything to do with the cereal, he or she isn't ready and you should try again in a week or so.
Anyway, I would ask your doctor at your baby's next check-up.

it should be started at 6 months. but now a days dr recommend it to be started at 4 months. what i did is i bought this gerber single grain cereal and add 1 scoop in 6 oz of milk every am. then if the baby is ok, tolerating well, not constipated, i made it every am and night. then when my baby is 5 months old, i gave it to her orally, but i noticed that my baby is not ready yet to eat solid bec she spit out the cereal, so i put back to adding it into the milk 2x a day. now, that my baby is 6 months old and ready to swallow cereal, i give it to her every am and at night i add it into the milk. do not use cereal with banana bec it will make ur baby constipated. try giving some water too after feeding her with cereal. i hope i did help u.

Most Dr's recommend you wait till they are at least 6 months but generally you can start them on rice cereal at about 4 months and then food like the fruits and veggies about a month after that

A baby is not supposed to be given any food other than breastmilk or formula until at least 4 months unless told to by their doctor. Giving cereal or other foods too early has been linked to childhood obesity, diabetes, and an increase in food allergies.

My kids were both started on rice cereal about 6 weeks of age...but that was 13 years ago when I had my first baby. It's best to talk to your pediatrician and he/she will recommend what they think is best...that's what I went by. Good luck!

Talk with your pediatrician first but ours had us start our son at 2 months. We made a gruel out of rice cereal and his formula and placed it in his bottle. He's done quite well on it.
