Yes, it is true that Satan was once an angel, but because he strayed from the word of God, he was hence forth cast out of heaven to spend eternity in hell. I don't like Satan. I am a Christian.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I think Satan has unwarranted bad press, he's a scapegoat for the Christian church, they need Satan, as most of their followers do so out of fear.
Satan is older than Christianity the Egyptians worshipped him as Set and the Yezidis as Melek Taus, Lucifer is the lightbearer or morning star and is all about enlightenment peace and balance.
True Satanists do not harm children or animals there has been more massacre and torture from the Christian church over the years than there ever has been from true Satanists, yeah you get the odd whacko who's watched too many horror films, but you also get whacko doctors and police, that doesn't make all doctors or policemen evil, God and his religion is violent, the christians murdered many innocent children, women and harmless herbal healers and fortune tellers (witch trials) they burnt down the villages and temples of the celtic pagans and stole their holidays, the pagans were peaceful nature lovers who believed in many old dieties including Set, further research on this is needed to open society's eyes to the truth. we are all puppets of a false God.
If I could ask God some questions they would be?
If you are so loving and forgiving, why don't you forgive and why do you condemn?
If you made EVERYTHING why make Satan if you knew (apparently God knows everything) that it would lead to war, famine, disease, destruction and pain, especially if you are a peace promoter like you say in the bible?
And no God, don't say because you need to teach us a lesson, what father would torture and punish their children and their children's children for 1000's of years, when they created the supposed "evil" in the first place, if you left a gun in your lounge and your child shot someone, would you go and beat the crap out of your child? I think not and if you did you'd have social services round quicker than you could say Jesus Christ!
Even the Government have better morals than God!
Why are there so many contradictions in the bible, check out link
http://www.evilbible.com/biblical%20cont...
And if it's because man changed or wrote it, then that makes christianity fake because they're following the word of man!
And my final question (well it's about all I can fit on here) compared to the billions God has killed, name as many people as you can that Satan has killed, (oh and the sinners don't count because after all sinners are bad, right? So Satan's doing a good deed and since we're all sinners in the eyes of God, well Satan hasn't done anything wrong)
Thank you, thank you God I rest my case!
I myself am a Satanist and I am a lover of peace and nature, I have followed the old ways for many years, it was the violence and fear in the bible that made me question God,
We want not war but peace, mankind does the best it can in a planet that is out of control, maybe if we had more control of our own actions and consequences instead of bowing to God and admitting defeat by naming ourselves sinners, we might have a little more respect for ourselves and our planet.

Is it true?? Huh?? well that's how the "story" goes anyway. SO far as the story reads, honestly without the character of Satan it would be pretty boring wouldn't it? So I guess I like him in a way right keeps the story interesting.

Well I would not say true but its one legend anyway. And not just any angel, but the most beautiful one in God's creation. I like the idea of Satan, as it gives us boundries to follow and definately a good reson not to become evil. Would you want someone that vain and self centered lording over you for eturnity?Um, no thanks.

I don't believe in Satan. (I'm Lutheran)
The satan that others believe does not seem like a nice guy, so I would not like him at all. If he existed.

I don't like or dislike him. I'm indifferent. To me, he's nothing more than a fairy tale. Satanism isn't what you think it is.
