wouldn't that be an oxymoron? Give up our freedoms to protect our freedom???

When did freedom and liberty become mutually exclusive? What if King George has a schizophrenic episode and decides that everyone with whiskers is a terrorist threat? (You may laugh, but that's exactly the kind of thing that has happened before). Giving up "liberties" will never protect our freedom because it takes the power out of the hands of the people and places it in the hands of the government and that is the beginning of the end. Every time a government begins that kind of talk, it's the signal that the end of a free citizenship is at hand.

Come on man. Liberty and freedom are basically the same thing. Giving up freedom will only bring tyranny. Does Hitler, Stalin, and Mao ring a bell. Go read a book on this instead of listening to Fox news.

There is no freedom without liberty. And no security without freedom. Better to be free, and have terrorists here than live under a dictatorship without fear, except the fear of the government. Watch "V for Vendetta".

Sure, a good idea.
For starters, the freedom of speech can be traded for the fear that the terrorists would vocally influence the people.

Then, probably, we can exchange our economic freedom so that the terrorists can not transact as freely as they do now.

Then, may be we accept a censorship of our media to ensure that the terrorists don't communicate using these media.

Well. where will this end...

Many conservatives dont understand / want it either.
Temporary restrictions, when applied with reason and judiciousness is fine but simply to eliminate rights and freedoms because it's easier to "govern" that way is always wrong.

Because I want the government out of my personal life for the same reasons Republicans want the government out of their business affairs.

I don't need the government controlling or being involved in all aspects of my life.

I'm wrestling with it too...one of my favorite quotes is

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Ben Franklin

Even though thay are terrorist scum and attack civilians...I think I would like to pick up my handgun for one.
