2(3k+1) - k = 18
2*3k + 2*1 - k = 18
6k + 2 - k = 18
5k + 2 = 18
5k = 18 - 2
5k = 16
k = 16/5
k = 3.2

check:
2(3k+1)-k=18

left side of equation= 2(3*3.2 + 1) - 3.2
= 2(9.6 + 1) - 3.2
= 2(10.6) - 3.2
= 21.2 - 3.2
= 18

right side of equation = 18

left side = right side
therefore k = 3.2 is the correct solution

2(3k+1)-k=18

6k+2-k=18 (open the brackets by expanding)

5k+2=18 (6k-k=5k)

5k=16 (when you bring 2 over it will become -2. 18-2=16)

k=16/5

k= 3 1/5 (three and one over five)

got it?

its easy!
