1. Bored wearing it the normal way
2. A fashion statement
3. To cover-up ring worms or an unsightly rash right at your hair-line (for short haired ppl)
4. Bending down to peep into a verry shallow cupboard and lazy to take off cap (so that you won't bump the cap's 'visor' part)

To keep something off of your neck such as the sun, or rain.
There is 2.
Because it is in style makes 3.
To keep the wind from catching the bill and blowing it off of your head 4.
To keep the bill from bumping into things while you are looking at something really close up 5.
The in style thing is not really logical. I think they were meant to be worn forward.

To shade the back of your neck on a sunny day. To keep your head from getting sunburned if the brim of the hat is in the way of something you're doing. To fit in. To keep your hair on your head (in terms of foodservice) without the brim getting in your way. Because it's comfortable.
