Yes, they are stupid laws.....because they are for stupid people!!
Most intelligent, moral people would not need the laws, because they would act properly anyway.
Let's take all the safety labels off everything. You know, the ones that tell you not to touch the muffler on your lawn mower because it is hot, or to keep your feet away from the mower blades, and not to touch electrical wires or get the electrical appliance wet, because you'll get shocked. This would eliminate the stupid people quickly, and the need for stupid laws.

Well you're right about cigarettes killing more people, but your whole point of view is wrong. Drugs and alcohol alter your state of mind, making you do things you wouldn't normally do. Cigarettes just kill you over an extended period of time. You don't have less of a life-expectancy every time you don't wear your seatbelt. You're on the right track, but you might want to think a little deeper about some of those things.

Tobacco companies own massive amounts of shares in the government. While smoking may not kill you straight away, vehicular, seat belt and helmet infringements can lead to immediate death. Tolerance my friend for the millions of people who started smoking at the behest of "benign" advertising and encouragement to ww1 and ww2 and other service men and women to start smoking.
We should be all encouraging our young people not to smoke anything and providing adequate support to quit the habit, and easing the withdrawal processes from other drugs.
There are however no fail safe methods. Put your considerable energies into those areas and gain the trust of the people you are trying to help. Judgement accomplishes little.

I am very much for less government...the more government the more a mess everything becomes...our forefathers knew this, and it seems to have been forgotten over the decades.....I am sick and tired of the government butting in and telling me where I can smoke and that I have to wear a seat-belt and a helmet etc, etc, etc....they need to stay out of my PERSONAL choices...

I know they have lied for years on how addictive smoking is. I am a nurse and I have seen some patients that are SO desperate for a smoke (after lung failure, emphysema, Cancer of throat, etc) they still "have" to have their smoke! This just blows my mind even though it is killing them. This is from my professional point of view...
I use to smoke years ago, but quit and glad of it. I think and wish they would put aleast more regulations on smokes. It is addictive and it is killing people. And I can talk on behalf of smokers because I use to smoke and I have also seen patients lungs and the effects/damage it does to the body..which is bad. Yuck! I know it want make you drunk..thus get a ticket; but it could prolong your life if more rules were on it. FOR EVERY PUFF YOU TAKE, IT TAKE 7 SECONDS OFF YOUR LIFE. AND THAT DOES ADD UP! THAT IS A FACT.

The government's job isn't to protect us from ourselves. Drug laws don't work, and once you reach adulthood, you should be able to ingest any poison you want. Repeal all drug laws, and take the money used to enforce them and incarcerate drug offenders and use it for treatment and education, so at least people know what they're getting into, and can have help getting off of it if they really want to. That's my suggestion.
Don't misunderstand me: drugs are harmful. But making them illegal hasn't helped anything.

actually the govt is making it harder and harder to smoke anywhere at all. Fines are outrageous and in California your neighbor can sue you if smoke gets in their yard.
they keep it legal for the taxes. It is interesting to me, that with all the billions the states and feds won from the tobacco companies, not a penny went to help the people addicted to these nasty things (including me). They just took the money and spent it.

No, because I have never heard of someone overdosing by Marlboros or Camels. Besides, it should be everyone's choice what THEY want to do, not busybodies who want to peek in bedroom windows..........
You can drive a car and kill yourself/someone else at 16...you can vote, pay taxes, and die in war at 18.... and you can drink at 21.......
Let's take away EVERYONE's freedoms so that the ONLY thing that adults can do on a Friday night is sit at home watching censored re-runs of state- approved programming while humming 'I'm an oscar myer weiner......................................................,'
until we pull the trigger from BOREDOM!

The government shouldn't interfere in the personal lives of its citizens. Our government's position on prohibiting certain drugs while allowing the usage of others is beyond ludicrous.

you know, i agree. at least when you are riding without a helmet you don't kill anyone else!i think that if smokers were at least more considerate, i wouldn't even consider it an issue. why can't they take it outside or in the car...somewhere where non-smokers don't have to be around it. and why not at least keep it like 100 yards away from the door of any establishment....
