My friend is 20. She's on birth control but she's single. She's not a hooker. She said "just in case". If she doesnt have anyone and she's not a whore, what is your thought of her being on it?

Hun,there are many reasons for a female taking birth control. It does not particularly have to do with her being sexually active. She could be taking it to simply regulate periods, etc. You should be proud of your friend that she is actually putting one step forward and protecting herself. Many females do not do that, look at the pregnant teens out there in this world.Yes,they have alot of courage to do what they do,but if they took the step that your friend is in protecting herself then there would be alot less teen pregnancies. They would be able to enjoy their teen years. You cannot judge her for it,and neither is it weird.Support her decision instead of thinking she is crazy for wanting to protect herself or regulate her body.Have a good day.

That's actually a smart, cautious thing to do. Despite what you may hear about possible negative effects of being on the pill for extended periods of time, they're very rare side effects and, personally, I think the benefits outweigh the possible risks. If she's not ready to have a child then this is the BEST thing she could do, besides being abstinent. (And of course having her partner wear a condom as well).
Some people go on the Pill for therapeutic purposes. If you have exceptionally heavy menstruation, horrible cramps, or crazy mood swings the steady stream of hormones in the Pill have a balancing effect on all that.
However, she should still talk to her doctor or gynecologist about possible side effects and the proper level of hormones she should be taking according to her specific requirements and medical conditions. There are so many types out there right now there's an almost perfect one for every girl!

It seems a little weird because hopefully, if she does find someone, they will use condoms. On the other hand, with the prevalence of date rape drugs, it might be better than taking the morning after pill all the time if she drinks enough to be unsure if she was drugged or passes out sometimes.

The regulating periods and helping the skin are good points too. Maybe she's just embarrassed to say that without the pill she never knows when her period might come.

It is common (but remember the majority isn't always right). I think the main disadvantage to taking it, just in case, is the possibility that she might have sex without requiring a condom. Birth control doesn't protect you from STDs - only you requiring the guy to have and use a condom will. Other than that I think it is probably OK, but I would suggest talking to your mom about it. She has probably been there before.

Well.. if she thinks... just in case... maybe she knows something you don't. Why is it your concern anyway?
The pill is used for more than just contraception. It can clear up acne... is can dissolve a cyst (if she had one)... it can aid in weight control for some people... in others, make them a bit more busty. It can stop your menstrual cycle so you don't have to deal with bleeding all that often.
There are many other effects... and I really don't think you should be interfering.
