My bday's coming up, and my hubby wants to buy my a few cd's but I haven't a clue! I'm turning 30, and listen to music in the car WITH MY 2 YR OLD! So it can't be really vulgar or, well, noisy. I love that music, but I never buy anything (I always find something more important), and since parenthood have totally lost touch. Also, my tastes have done a full 180--I used to like Tracy Chapman, Jewel, Sarah Mc Laughlin and all that feminist stuff, but now I hate it and that's ALL I have.
I like Green Day, The Smiths, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, if it helps...

Try New Found Glory, The Living End(their self titled cd is best), No Doubt, Tragic Kingdom(it's more ska, but still good), Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are good, The Ataris, The Donna's are usually pretty good, pretty much any "mainstream" bands(Good Charlotte, Blink(newer cd's), Simple Plan) are good about their lyrics. I have a 3 year old daughter so I understand that you need toned down music. You could always buy edited( I know yucky) versions of other punk bands. I know quite a few, but most are not suitable for children. Happy birthday!!!

Well, this is all in a matter of opinion. Some of the bands that I enjoy that are close to those are...

The Academy Is...
Motion City Soundtrack
Paramore

There are plenty more that would be within range. But I'd check those out first. They aren't super indie, or super punk, but I will be surprised if you don't like them.

Riley

P.S. If you find out you like these, and want a few more suggestions.. just tell :P
