It's pretty common knowledge that one way to improve your organic search result is by having other sites link to yours. Furthermore the popularity of those sites which link INTO yours is a critical aspect.

Question: All things being equal, is the CONTENT of the sites linking INTO YOUR SITE a factor in improving SEO.

Hypothetical Example:

Lets say I have a site that sells computers.
Would my SEO ranking be MORE improved if I was on the receiving end of a link from IBM as OPPOSED TO being on the receiving end of a link from McDonalds?
(assuming that from a stand alone point of view IBM and McDonalds are "equal" in the search engine algorythms eyes).

Tha answer is Yes. The linking sites "theme" is extremely important, also the sites PR (Page Rank or Importance).
But just as important is the number of links that the page gives out, if there is only 1 link on the page to you, thats great (that'll never happen). Try to get on a page with a low number of links otherwise its importance gets spread out between them.
