Having run away with her younger brother to live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, twelve-year-old Claudia strives to keep things in order in their new home and to become a changed person and a heroine to herself.
From the Publisher
Claudia knew that she could never pull off the old-fashioned kind of running away....She didn't like discomfort....Therefore, she decided that her leaving home would not be just running from somewhere but would be running to somewhere. To a large place, a comfortable place, an indoor place, and preferably a beautiful place. And that's why she decided upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
— from From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
When Claudia decided to run away, she planned very carefully. She would be gone just long enough to teach her parents a lesson in Claudia appreciation. And she would go in comfort — she would live at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She saved her money, and she invited her brother Jamie to go, mostly because he was a miser and would have money.
Claudia was a good organizer and Jamie had some ideas too; so the two took up residence at the museum right on schedule. But once the fun of settling in was over, Claudia had two unexpected problems: She felt just the same and she wanted to feel different; and she found a statue at the Museum so beautiful she could not go home until she discovered its maker, a question that baffled the experts, too.
The former owner of the statue was Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Without her — well, without her, Claudia might never have found a way to go home.
Have you checked Barnes and Noble's web site? They have an extensive search tool for books and you could probably put in a few basic keywords and find it.

It feels like a Robert Heinlein novel to me, even if i'm uncertain which one. He has a lot of tremendous childrens books about childrens doing exciting sciencey themes, yet many times by using very reality they stay interior the destiny - like purple Planet, The Rolling Stones, Starship Trooper (confident, the in worry-free words the action picture replaced into loosely in accordance with), vast call Beast, etc. He also has some man or woman books, which have truly more beneficial "courting" or romance content cloth fabric that you'll favor to no longer desire for somewhat one.

Whoa! I used to love that book, it's "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E. I. Konigsburg, and it's an older sister who decides to run away from home, taking her younger (and smartest) brother with her. I read it like seven times when I was little.

It really is called "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler". i just finished re-reading it and have convinced my nine-year-old niece to read it. It's such a great book, original, witty, even though it's a children's book, and laugh out loud funny!!

They also made it into a movie. I think I still have it or my mom taped over it. She does that a lot.
