Yes you will lose everything it sucks I know.

However their is something you can do to save it, if you have a DVD-RW drive just burn files or documents to a disk any programs you will have to install again.

Then I suggest if you do reinstall Xp buy Norton ghost then you can make a rescue disk that will go back to the time and point you made it. Before creating the rescue disk make sure to have every thing need on you're computer.

You should not lose any of your data. You will however have to re-install all of your programs. The reason that I state - you should not lose is because - you need to make sure that you do not chose any option that formats your hard drive. Typically though in instances where you feel that you must re-install the operating is because you feel the system is either completely compromised or a major problem and therefore in those instances you may want to back up your important data, reformat the drive and re-install the OS. In any event whenever you are messing with the OS it's good practice to back up your important data.

No, you will NOT lose any of your data. When you reinstall XP, you will lose any XP-related settings, but that's it. Your data files are unaffected...In the olden days, we would lose everything if we re-formatted our disk and then reinstalled Windows, but not now. When you start the XP reinstall process, it will tell you that all your data is preserved.

Yes. Unless you have it saved to discs or have the cd's to reinstall things such as games make sure their not very scratched though or they'll take forever to install or maybe they'll just stop at 99%. Also you want to have important files and things copied into a portable hard drive or some other device if it's a small amount of folders you can just put them into a mp3 player if you have one. I hope this is somewhat of a help to you.

no unless you did a format before installing (available option in reinstalling) dont make the mistake.

reinstalling without formatting is 100% safe for windowsxp

you can also have the "repair install" option in xp wherein you wont need to reinstall all other programs in your old computer.
this works if you're upgrading to another motherboard.
