Great question, and let me add this:
why is it only AMERICANS (and then hillbillies, hicks) seem to experience abductions by aliens and such?
Have you ever heard a German telling such a story? A French? Italian? Portuguese? Swedish? Japanese? Indian? Chinese? Soemone from Kongo? Or Malaysia? New Zealand?
Hm, no!
Whenever you hear such a story, it will definately be a white poor american living in a trailer somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

I should not even reply to this question since I am a hick from the backwoods. But I want the points and this is an easy question asked by someone who apparently has no moral values of discrimination. I live in the Appalachian Mountains and I don't believe that any of me or my kin has ever seen a UFO! It seems that we are not really looking and we have better things to do with our time than to worry about other people.

Well, that's not the real reason. In cities and in large towns, most of the true night sky is blocked out. It's rare to REALLY be able to see all but a few stars. Out in the backwoods where we hicks hail from it is far more common to be able to sit out in our quiet back yards and look up at the night sky's full beauty. Add a telescope (which can be used for more than looking through the neighbor's window!) and you have one really good reason. Another good reason is that Aliens may just like less populated areas. My final reason, and some may say the most likely one, is that we pay too many visits to the still to check our moonshine and as long as we're there, we have to test it and as long as we're testing it we might as well have a good long swig of it, and....well you get the picture.

Yeah, I always wondered about that, I never understood why they wouldn't just land in the middle of New York city....Or why not on a military base?

They dont. There have been plenty of sightings where policemen or pilots or other trustworthy people have seen UFO's
