Go someplace where people won't know you, preferably with an understanding friend, to start.

I use to be in side all of the time hiding from everyone
close the curtains the doors and any other way,
any body could find me for many years becousei hid i lost my friends
now looking back and being open is the best thing i ever did
don't let other people tell you what you can or can't do
start in you home and work out what you want to do
find people in your area that crossdress some places they have parties and they are so much fun
if that dose not work for you oganise a party with a crossdressing thyme and dress up to you hearts content, you, your friends and family will have a lot of fun
Good luck what ever you do

You have to know that most cross dressers get riduculed, either to their back or to their face. Fact is, society is not ready to accept it. People know homosexuals exist but many don't want the reminder of gay activity in their face. You can't really live your life according to what someone else thinks. If you're a feminine man chances are you're already being talked about. Why not give the world a big F-U and do what makes you happy?
I'm a bisexual woman and very, very open minded. The one thing I've seen that always makes me giggle is when crossdressers make themselves up wrong. I've seen some hot ones and I've seen some to make me say to myself, 'that dude needs a sister to show him how to do it'. If you're going to cross dress.. make sure you're fierce. You don't have to dress like you're walking down a run way but if you look like a woman, you'll be respected more than if you just look like a guy with in a dress. There's a difference. If you have any female friends you're cool with, ask them to show you how to apply make up and pick out nice colors and patterns for your body type. Less is best. Too much make up will look cheap.
Definately get the fear out of your mind. People don't look as hard as you think.. sometimes it's more in your mind than reality.

W/E there a lot of good answers here and I would like to tell you about my experience. I too only dressed at home for many many years. The urges to go in public just got so much harder and I couldn't bear it anymore. So I made appointment with Jim Bridges Boutique in Studio City California and that was the best thing I had ever done. He helped me so much and we became good friends and went out often. Gina Lance from then GirlTalk now of TGLife came by and we hit it off. She took me out that night and had a wonderful time tell the we hours of the morning, until I had to go home. That first night out was so exciting and the drive home dressed was thrilling. So if you really enjoy crossdressing and you want to go out in public by all means do it.
You'll only regret it if you don't later in your life. So don't wait any longer. Check out tgnow & tglifre good sites for information about clubs and transformation services. Write to Gina at tglife.com and tell her Jill Bridges sent you..........
If you live in SoCal contact me and will go together.........

you can't control other people. If you cross dress in public (unless you actually fool everyone), some people may ridicule you. So either do it and expect some ridicule, or don't do it and avoid the whole issue. If I saw you I would not ridicule you, but I WOULD think you looked ridiculous. So, personally I would encourage you for the sake of your dignity to do this in private or not at all.

Just do what you like to do. It isn't strange to wear clothes of the other gender. Just do it, nobody knows you're wearing the wrong clothes (only in your surrounding). Do not care about other people. If you feel better when you crossdress, why not?

If you want to dress feminine you dont have to do it where you dont want to.If you dont think you can handle what others might say you are free to do it in your home,I dont pass, and have been out during the afternoon wearing a skirt and heels ,walked to a clothing store with a friend, and wasnt hassled at all.A few tooted their car horns ,but nothing more.just remember if you go out dressed as a girl make sure you are dressed tastefully and dont do anything to draw attention

I guess you'll have to take ridicule, because I guess you'll look ridiculous. Unless you can get a REALLY good stylist to make you "passable." But that might be too much work.

start in privite until you find your look and then if ou feel brace enough go outside and beprepared or the teasing.
Or you could start out wearing Kilts in public. a perfectly manly piece of clothing.and still able to get the feel of wearing a skirt.
