Two ways.
1. Use a word processing program capable of inserting these symbols from a menu option, such as Microsoft Office, and more specifically, Word from the Office Suite. www.microsoft.com/office for more information.
2. Check out this website, and you can write down the keycodes for all the characters. é for example is made by typing Alt+130. You hold down key during the entire time, and use your NUM LOCK [Number Keypad] to type the numbers. The 1-9 (0) row above your letters will not do it, so turn on NUM LOCK!
Hope this helps!

You can use Character Map to copy and paste special characters into your documents, such as the trademark symbol, special mathematical characters, or a character from the character set of another language.
Open Character Map
Note
To open Character Map, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Character Map.

The character map does work but ALT codes are fastest if you're doing it on a regular basis:

To use the codes hold ALT and type the number with your keyboard's KEYPAD (not the numbers above the letter keys) then release the ALT key. It should work in just about any program.
