Is it true that the LDS(Mormon) Church has SO much power over all of you that...

You CANNOT be Mayor/Police Chief/ Fire Chief of ANY Utah city, sheriff/county commissioner of ANY Utah county, work in ANY business in Utah...

...unless you are a LDS member in good standing?...

My son says it's discrimination, I say "NO"!!!...who's right?

That is not true at all. For example, the Mayor of Salt Lake City, Rocky Anderson is not affiliated with the LDS church. In fact, you don't have to have a membership to buy adult beverages at all bars. It is at private clubs, that you have to have a membership. You can go to a bar at Fridays or Chilie's and buy a drink without a membership, but you have to buy food. So our rules are a little strict but you do not have to be LDS to participate in public office or get a job

No that is absurd.

Think about it though...the vast majority is LDS, so who do you think they are going to elect to offices? people that they know have their same values...

The church NEVER takes a political stance or encourages anyone to vote or whatever for a certain person.
At voting time for everything, usually a member of the bishopric or the bishop conducting Sacrament meeting will say something like "at this time, we encourage all who are voting to do so with prayer and select a person who you think will do the best job"
something like that...there is never any kind of "side" the church picks either...it is an individual choice.

That is not true at all! The only influence they have is that you have to have a membership in a bar in order to order an adult beverage. Utah is only 35% Mormon.
