like my mom keeps saying that leaving on the filter 24/7 will run up the electric bill. Tell me, does a fish filter, 20 gallon filter, take up much electricity?

It will only use a very small amount of electricity. The mini motors that power the small impellor in the bottom of the filter resevoir only use about $1 or so's worth of electricity in a month.
Find your mom's biggest electric bill from before you start running the filter and offer to pay the difference each month if it goes over that.

you don't need to turn on air filter at all time ,you can unplug when you about to go to bed! Because at night time fish will rest just like you do and air filter is no need during that time!!!
And 20 gallon filter is not take much electricity !!!
But be sure unplug any electrical that you don't use !!!!to save electric bill!!!!! such as cd player,tv,washer ,dryer, and your computer!

No! It uses very little. The filters are made to run continuously. We have a 50 gallon tank. And if we don't keep the filter up it gets nasty pretty quick.

As everyone has said the cost is minimal. Your filter's useful bacteria will die off without oxygen. Keeping an aquarium filter on constantly will help it to run more efficiently and keep your water cleaner. The airation from the moving water is especially important during hot nights as the warmer the water, the less oxygen it will hold.

The average twenty gallon tank uses 140 kWh/yr (lights, filter and air pump included). I don't know what you pay for your electricity, but you can look at your bill and work out the cost. To find the annual energy cost for your tank, you multiply the power consumption (140 kWh) by the price of electricity ($.08/kWh or whatever you pay)
Example
140 kWh x $.08 = 11.20 per YEAR

2 issues would have occurred to the Black tetra. a million it has managed to get into the clear out. somewhat hassle-free with new little fish and some sorts of clear out. I have somewhat of nyon stocking over the top of the pipe on my exterior clear out for that very reason. from time to time with tiny fish the present is alright to pull them in. 2 as a results of numerous motives really stress if those days aquired the fish has died and the different inhabitants have eaten him. I not often locate the bodies in my heavily stocked tank. SNAILS.......... you should fish as many out as conceivable and examine out them on your pond....... to make a snail seize........ placed a small piece of blanched (dip in boiling water for some seconds) lettuce on a saucer and cover with yet another saucer use a pebble or something to create a tiny hollow that the snails yet no longer the fish can get in. position on the gravel in a single day and the snails will assemble in it. get rid of and empty into the pond. As snails are prolific breeders you would ought to purpose this on various activities. nevertheless you could squash any you could and the fish will then devour them. some snails are functional so I by no skill get rid of all of them. There are also various fish that like them in spite of the indisputable fact that it relies upon on the dimensions of your tank which may be maximum suitable. Have a note consisting of your fish enterprise. sturdy success!

No it doesnt and you have to keep it on or your tank will get dirty. Also your chemical levels could become unsafe for your fish. Flip your mom a dollar and tell her you're paid up for the week and stop nagging ya about it!
