Look at how many problems we have involving alchohol. If people can't control themselves when drunk, how would they able to control themselves while influenced by marijuana use, or both? They both cloud judgement and in my opinion, keep it illegal. At least people will use some caution when using it. I would hate to think of a drunk, high person on the road thinking it is ok to do so because they are legal. Control one better before legalizing another one and causing more problems. What do you all think?

cjlintexas:

I see your point but if they want to use it, they will regardless but if it stays illegal, they will be less likely to do stupid things while on it.

Wow, jane has a great point. I see how education is a key, but can education be relied upon to be a greater influence than peer pressure and it still doesn't help with the older generation out of the learning phase and yes, I have seen the effects of marijuana use first hand and I tell you, just like alchohol when abused, it can be very dangerous.

Well, I completely disagree.
The problem with that argument is that pot doesn't intoxicate you like alcohol does. It doesn't impair you nearly as severely as alcohol does.
You actually need to know about the effects of marijuana to have an opinion on this.
Based on your argument, alcohol should be illegal and marijuana should be legal, or they should both be legal or illegal.
And people are already getting drunk and high.
The problem is how we teach people about drugs, it is really wrong to send the message that illegal drugs are very immoral, bad and harmful, while legal drugs are not.-- And that IS the message that is being sent.
IF they were taught about drugs the correct way, they would know that mixing alcohol and marijuana is very dangerous because alcohol is a poison and toxic to your liver where marijuana suppresses the urge to throw up.....
leading to: alcohol poisoning. This is why many college students die of this. They are smoking while binge drinking. Lethal combo. If they were taught properly about drugs, this wouldn't happen. -- there are many other instances like this.
the way we are teaching about drugs is actually more harmful than the illegal drugs themselves.
Honest information is the most effective tool in prevention.

The point is that unless they are legal, drugs are impossible to controll. The war on drugs was lost before it was started. By definition, criminals are not bound by the rules. That is an insurmountable advantage.

If drug abuse is ever going to be controlled, it has to be in the open and controlled by people who, in theory at least are looking out for our best interests. Trying to controll marijuana isn't going to hamper the battle against drunk driving. If anything it will help, since all those police dollars would be freed up for other things.

Weather you smoke pot or not, it is in your best interest to have it legal and if you don't smoke, you probably wouldn't even notice.

Why is it illegal in the first place?

actually with pot most people are much less likely to drive or be in altercations. Thats not a promotion for it, simply reality.

I don't say legalize it, but I might not be against it either.

my 17 yo daughter goes to AA every night of the week. I have some experience with drugs and alcohol I am sorry to say. They almost killed her.

Personally, I think marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol.

I think they should make alcohol illegal and legalize pot.

I agree completely, but there are some who need new and improved therapies. (Not refering to pot.)
