haha when i was younger me and my friends thought it was funny to call and just talk to them and see where they were and stuff like that it was funny until we got the phone bill. LOL

When I was young, we called the operator instead of calling information.

well when i was young, we did not have 1411 or 411 on our telephones so we had to call the operator to ask for telephone numbers.

also we did not have 911 on our telephone system, and if we did not have the police or fire department numbers we would call the operator to tell them about our emergency and then the operator would connect us to the police or fire department.

so i guess i have called the operator and it used to be free also. they did not charge for the use of the operator.

Lots of times. They can emergency break-through into a call if you get a busy signal. They can check a busy line to see if it is in use, off the hook, or if the line is having problems. They are really kind of useful.
