If you look around you can find a decent Littman for $40 and up. I've had mine for three years now and it works great for what I need it for. No need to spend $200+ for something, if you want one of the top of the line Littmans you can get one later on.
Some really nice ones here, I have the one for $61.49 on this page and it works great.

Littmans are the best. I have a hearing problem in my right ear, so when I was in school I had a hard time hearing blood pressures and apical pulses. Then I got a Littman.. and I can hear clearly. The ear pieces are soft, and fit the opening of your ear canal. I have a Littman II and it works great. Yeah, you can spend more money on the cardiology ones, but those are more for drs who have to listen for varying heart tones, and nursing doesn't do that . We asssess if the heartbeat is regular or irregular, lungs are clear or not, etc.... I hear just fine with my Littman, and thats all I will use from now on.

I worked for 15 years as a cardiology nurse using the same Litman Cardiology II stethoscope, and it is still in good shape. The price is a bit high, but well worth it if you consider how long it lasts.
