i work in a factory. and the rule is if you are a packer, no matter what department you work in, you should be able to pack in any other departments. yesterday at work, there were 3 packers and 1 operator who's job is to run the machine properly. the three packers were suppose to switch packing and other small jobs....one packer said she didn't know how to pack so we said that i'll be ok she could stack up the boxes instead. anyway, the 2 of us were in trouble for packing bad parts and the 3rd person didn't get the verbal warning just because she isn't in our department. like i said, the rule is: if you are a packer, you are suppose to be able to pack in any department. NOW IS THAT FAIR OR NOT BECAUSE THE 3RD PERSON DIDN'T GET WROTE UP? let me know ASAP!!!

Fairness is an idea that leads to much heartache in this world...the sooner you dispense of this notion the happier you will be. I would look for a new job and put my energy into that.

You are responsible for the job you are doing. If your job while you're packing is to not back bad parts then you must take responsibility if you do. The 3rd person regardless of their training did not pack the bad parts. How do you know that when you switched she would have packed bad parts, you can't say that she would or would not have. Therefore, you cannot write her up.

What you could do is talk to your manager to get the 3rd person properly trained to be a part of your team.

You did tell the 3rd person it was ok for them to not pack and to just to stack......so it was not the 3rd person who packed bad parts. Correct?.....so in my opinion they should not be in trouble for what they did not do..........it was the two packers that goofed.

Doesn't sound all that fair to me, no, and you two did something nice for her.

Maybe she should get written up for not packing at all? I suppose there's no union to give you anything to stand on, right?

I'm a bit nervous to read about packing bad parts. Please tell me we aren't talking about animal parts.
