Not unless I'm also wearing a gown made of at least 15 yards of fabric, a ruffled petticoat, and a 140" circumference hoop. And I'd still want the corset to only take about 1-2" off my waist.
Mah goodness, those ball gowns are jus' lovely, but Ah'd much rathuh jus' set a spell in mah day dress undah a big oak in this Suthun weatheh...
A corset keeps your back from hurting when wearing a heavy gown....
I'm more used to Renaissance corsets, which aren't really designed to reduce the waist, but instead just provide support.
