Technically no. But the real answer is yes. High school athletics give the ahtletes the base knowledge needed to excel at that level. If you want to play linebacker for a college team regardless of the level, you need to already know how to read the QB, you already need to know how to plug gaps, and how to make corrections to yoru defense. Things like that. At a lesser skilled position, like as a lineman, you will still need to be ahtletically gifted, lift huge amounts of weight. Linemen must have enough knowledge about how to read opposing linemen, the linebackers, and know a playbook that is far too long. As a person without any experience, you would be getting thrown under the bus. Coaches aren't looking to TEACH players how to play football at the college level, instead they are looking to help you perfect the skills you already have. If you want to play college ball without any HS experience, I would recommend hiring a personal trainer that has experience with College players and ask him to help train you. While he wont be able to teach you the fundamentals of football (tackling and blocking aren't natural things people KNOW how to do), he can at least train your muscles to respond quickly and help give you the endurance to withstand the practices.

Bottom line is this... .you need HS to play college ball.

Can a person walk on and play DI without playing high school football? Yes. The problem for you is: at 5'9 180 lbs and 4.6 forty you really don't come close to meeting the requirements for a DI QB. You would have to show them something very special. You would have to go to a high profile QB camp and get the attention of a college scout. Why not try a DIII program where you can still get a great education and have a much better chance of actually getting to play at some point.

No but don't expect to play for a top division college. Many of the smaller colleges have walk in tryouts so thats your best bet. Think of the movie rudy for inspiration

not really. if you go to college and show your coach that you can play then thats all you need. and its the same going to the pros you don't really need to go to college to play in the NFL as long as you got the skills to play at the level your good.
