Apparently, over 50% of today's young people think so. Too much freedom of religion, too much freedom of speech, too much freedom of the press, too much of a right to peacble assemble?
I thought we used to call people who thought like that communists?

It's worked fairly well for almost 220 years. I think it's fine - but it's actually endangered. "Free speach zones," concentration of media in a few powerful hands, less ability to gather without permits and insurance... if anything, we are losing ground.

The framers of the Declaration of Independence did not think in those terms. They were oppressed in England which is why they came to America, they knew what freedom meant and were willing to pay the price for it. If we did not have these freedoms that are granted in the First Amendment then we would be just what this administration wants us to be and that is mindless sheep the blindly follow the blind no matter that the blind are in debt beyond what our great great great grandchildren will ever pay, no matter that there are two Americas the one that is for the rich and the one that has all the poor and this administration has already chosen which is the side to be on. Our young people unfortunately are used to being led by the blind so it will only be a matter of time before it is decided for our safety we should have no First Amendment all it does is make it easier for the terrorist that appear around every corner at the right time and that being any time that someone stands up for the First Amendment.

There is one thing that the liberal interpretation of the First Amendment has allowed - the corruption of our political system. The background is this: several years ago, the US Supreme Court ruled that campaign contributions to initiatives and politicians is a First Amendment right. This gave license to private interests (business, labor, single issue, rich individuals) almost limitless opportunities to corrupt the political process. Politicians at all levels and either party spend inordinate numbers of hours raising the funds, spending the funds or plotting how to raise even more funds, giving the public's business and the common interest the short shrift. Plus if anyone can take the politicians' words that campaign contributions do not affect what legislation they will adopt, vote for or try to kill, they're naive. Millions spent on campaign contrubutions have nearly destroyed our once fair political process, turning it into a joke.
Regarding the issue of the First Amendment going too far - who is going to decide? If it's worked since 1776, more or less, leave it alone. I cited my only objection to the First Amendment above.

50% of today's young people have no clue what a "right" is, they have grown up in a world where they think they have a "right" to a job, a home, food, etc. These things are not rights, they are goals that all Americans have the FREEDOM to strive for with minimal interferance from government. If they ever had their real rights taken away they wouldnt know what to do with themselves.

yeah, i really agree with the constitution and what was originally written. we seem to have some judges & lawmakers who are interpreting these a little differently now than i think was meant back then, but if we AREN'T allowed to assemble, not allowed to write what we want on a piece of paper or a website, if we can't assemble together about issues that affect more than one of us,,,,,,why don't we all call ourselves maoists or legally change our last names to stalin......there are plenty of examples in history of what has happened to those who narrow other peoples' rights too far, but then again, like, why would anybody want to, like, read about a bunch of old dudes????!
here's to the boston tea party, crossing the potomac, thomas jefferson, abraham lincoln, some of the old school people who truly understood what freedom meant. cheers to all independent thinkers!

A lot of it stems from poor parenting, but even then, it's not really the parents' faults. There's no official Parenting Guide.
People of younger generations get their way a lot of the time and complain about a lot of things here in the United States that people in 3rd World Countries don't enjoy.
Whenever anything is given for free, people tend to have less appreciation for it because they didn't have to work for it. It's people who have to work for things that have value.
People who aren't as committed toward something can back out at any time or have less regard or respect for something.

me personally i think nobody uses it which makes me mad i mean this political correctness has ruined it. which i think most of America and other country's that have freedom of speech are afraid to use it and are afraid of hurting others feelings. i say use and and be proud that you live in a country that allows you to say what you want.as for assembly, petition ,press, and religion people just don't use them which is stupid because once again political correctness has ruined the minds of millions.
