Sales ability cuz if you have good personality and friendliness and can talk a mean game then no real need to know all about the product when most ppl can read about it or it's common sense of the product. When ppl have product knowledge they sound like robots, not like they care about the customer but only about pushing the product

Sales ability, hands down. A good sales professional can sell anything. Any necessary product knowledge can be quickly and easily acquired but sales ability takes years for most people to acquire.

Sales Ability allows you to sell in any field any product. Product Knowledge is only limited to that product.

Even if people argue that you can use Aristotelian Logic to transfer methods over to other products of similar origin, that's still Sales Ability and knowing how to put a spin on things.

Product knowledge is good and some customers will want to know every detail....however you can get by with brochures, etc...

Ability is by far the best quality. I sold cars and this couple came 3 times and each time there was a problem with the car. They bought it anyways and love it and still stop by to visit when getting oil changes.

I would say you also need to be a bit of a bulldog. Without being obnoxious, don't take no for an answer. On average, the customer will say no 5-7 times. I knew a guy who sold cars with me who was a real ***...and yet he was always the top seller.

I'm gonna answer both. Product knowledge is GOOD, sales ability and getting a foot in the door is GREAT for you,,,,but most importantly is the service level that your company provides you once you get the sale. I'm in sales, my company offers a very good product, but the long term service level and pricing SUCK, which makes it difficult for me. The product I sale is asking my customers for a long term comitment, not just a one time sale.

I would say product knowledge. If you had complete knowledge of your product your customer would have a better idea of how it would benefit them. Sales ability comes with time to everyone.

Sales ability. A person who has good selling skills can sell ANYTHING... You gotta know how to work it!!! You can have product knowledge, but still not good with selling to people. You can always learn about the product.

I agree with the other 2 responses. You could know everything there is to know about the product, but be to afraid to speak. Sales ability

sell ability, a good sales man can sell almost anything.

There will be some products where you will have to know or know where to find the details.

But getting into the person who makes the buy choice is the hardest thing, over 1/2 the battle right there.

I say product knowledge. I'm also in sales-- selling gas & electric contracts at a higher rate than what they are paying. Obviously if our rate is more, why would they sign up??

That's where the backend benefits come in-- where you HAVE to have product knowledge!! If you explain it well & are confident at what you are selling, the sales definitely come much easier.
