I took a HPT today. It came up negative, but I havent had my period since 8/13 and that was a week earlier than it should have been. I missed a couple days of pills and I had sex. I also just stopped my birth control after that last month. Do you think the test is right?

Going off birth control can mess up your cycle for awhile so, you may not have a period this month or next month or be able to get pregnant until a little later. Although, many women get pregnant when taking thier pill incorrectly (missing pills) or right after stopping the pill so, you'll just have to wait a few days and take another test. See your doctor if you are very concerned.

I would go and have a blood test done by a doc. You may not have enough pregnancy hormone in your system to tell from a hpt. Some women can also just miss there period for a month, its possible. Either way, get the blood test done and if its neg. I would have the doc. check you out to make sure that nothing else is wrong with you. Hope that everything works out well for you!

I think that you should take another test or schedule an appointment because the last HPT I took was wrong it said that I was negative and when I went to the doctor for a check-up it was a surprise. So try another test. What do you have to lose???

Sometimes if you worry and stress out too much about missing your period... it actually won't come! Our bodies work in misterious ways, just take another test... but they are usually right the first time. Try to be more careful next time, this does not sound like it would have been the best situation for you right now (maybe I am wrong)!

The only way to know for sure - Blood tests. Home pregnancy tests (HPTs) are designed to detect hCG. It's present in both your urine and blood.

Try taking another one. If it's still negative wait a few more days and if you still don't get your period take another. If it's still neg. I would go to your OBGYN to find out what's going on.

periods can be late, but try another test, see if that one has different results
