Elevator music is worse because it has been tailored to be "vanilla." In other words, it is dumbed down so that even the lamest simpleton won't get his britches in a knot over what's playing. Like Barry Manilow on Prozac.
I've heard some pretty decent telephone music-on-hold. Almost sorry they cut the song off in mid stream.

Myself, I hate the on-hold music. You know you could hang up on it but then if you do, you miss your call. The difference between on-hold music and elevator music is that you have room to dance to the elevator music!

Well elevator music is nice, if not essential. Elevator music is there to socialize, to create an atmosphere (just like the jazzy lobby music) it gives you that hotel piano-lounge-water-fountainimpression... On the other hand telephone music is annoying.. You can never know whether you'll be treated to that music for only a seconds or many minutes.

I definitely hate telephone"music-on-hold" more. It drives me crazy! Elevator music can help relieve tension if you are in an elevator with someone you don't know, but telephone music is just plain annoying! They should at least play the radio or something other than do-do-do-da-dee-da-do-do-do. Just imagining it makes me want to hang up a phone.

I personally hate Telephone 'music on hold' because of the difference.. lol.. the difference being elevator music is just music with no lyrics.. maybe some kenny g.. or some nice calming piano.. and telephone on hold music is old crappy songs that you can't help to sing and then you sing them all day!! GD i hate telephone on hold music..

i hate elevator music more than the on-hold music cuz the music in the elevator is just really depressing for some reason. the on-hold music at least has some ok-sounding jazz, even tho i'm not a fan of jazz

I hate Telephone music on hold .. coz sometimes i dont like to listen to that when i am busy ..
Elevator music is ok at least we are not on hold
