From what I've seen (35 years in the computer business) there is no gender inequality in the technology infrastructure.
What there IS is perfectly competent women who are afraid to ask for that raise, afraid to ask to be assigned that valuable project, afraid to COMPETE!
Men on the other hand, are much less afraid to get down and dirty and as a result, they get the lion's share of the good stuff. And that good stuff is as likely to be handed out by a woman manager to a male worker as it is from a male manager to a male worker. Managers are people too, they respond the most to those who make the strongest case.
It isn't about hard work, it's about making sure you get an appropriate level of credit. and when women decide they WANT the credit and are willing to do the stuff they need to get it, they often go about it all wrong.
They storm into the managers office and start screaming, they plead, they cry, they make demands. They may get what they want that time, but they get labeled as a mouthy trouble maker and it is assumed that the little show in the manager's office was necessary because they AREN'T capable of getting what the want in an appropriate manner.
How men go about it is much more subtle. they put their names on documents. they develop friendships with people who are well placed to help promote their cause. They speak up in meetings. In short, wheter they are competent or not, they make sure that they create the illusion of confident competence.
Now, women WILL have to figure out how to do that in a way that is culturally appropriate for women. Our culture demands certain behavior from the two genders. If you think that is unfair, then you need to talk about fairness in the workplace to male nurses. Gender based behavior standards applies to everyone.

Today women are equally competing with men for employment in various fields which includes Bio-Medical, Research, Information Technology, Finance & Marketing.
Now your in 21st Century maam...
