for example: rap-talks about the good...the bad & the ugly. from dance steps, to their childhood, to world issues, to girls/men [they could stop the profanity]
gospel-well im christian, and obviously its good music because they sing about the Lord.
r&b- im into the rnb that collabos w/ rap alot. like a letoya luckett song, or rhianna, or beyonce.
rock-I've seen many young boys wearing make up[mascara mostly], and several finger-painting and dog chains on there necks....compared to a typical rap lover who loves writing raps about polical issues. who dresses simple, a baseball cap with a baggy shirt, and big shorts.....

im predicting the future....lots of answer's will just ignore my question and say "rap only talks about drugs, sex & money" or "rap is crap" or use the profanity "f**k u" if im wrong PLLEEEAAASSEE PLLEEEAAASSEE PLLEEEAAASSEE correct me and prove me wrong, because i was a HUGE fan of rock once. thank-u

1st You have made your point "you like rap BUT you dont like rock"
2nd Before i start i respect your views EVEN though i dont agree with them.
Now to start on my thoughts. Rock does talk about world issues and childhood, cause they write their songs, (ok some of the really crap ones dont but anyway, they arent rock)
And one thing which is good about proper rap, is that it is still true and you dont get little kids clogging up message boards saying there emo or punk which makes me want to throw my computer at them. Anyway im not gonna change your mind with my small agruement, BUT all i can say that the last bit you said (about kids wearing make up and dog chains) we can all thank Green Day for that, cause they made kids think there punk and stuff. So im a rock emo and stuff lover but i dont dress like that, i dress down so not all rock fans like to make a show and stuff.

Hope you see my point!

Do you actually think rap is the only type of music that talks about real things?! You obviously haven't heard anything then! Emo is for *******, metal is for ******* with long hair who wear all black, and rock is eh, everything nowadays is pathetic. Punk is the best genre of music I've ever heard! Not because of the music alone, but the lyrics. No not every punk band sang about politics, just the generic ones did. Great bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, The Faith, S.O.A, Urban Waste, Negative Approach and much more, sang about actual real things we all deal and have dealt with. All these retarded ******-*** bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Simple Plan, (I feel gay just typing them) are NOT punk rock! I have no idea why they're labeled as that, it's EXTREAMLY insulting. Have an open mind, don't stereotype music just by hearing the ridiculous mainstream ****. Some metal is okay, alot of early rock is okay, hell, even emo was good when it first started (when it was "emo-core"). Oh, and I think rap is crap. I don't see anything musical about it except for a constant annoying beat sound and some guy blabbering any words that rhyme. And I'm a Christian too, but I think gospel music is murder to listen to. I know what it talks about is good and I'm not bad mouthing that, but at least put effort into your music instead of thinking of a nice "whole some" melody and throwing in a few "I love Jesus' " and "praise the lord's". This turned out longer than I expected but I hope I got my message across.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of rap, but I don't hate it. Generally, a lot of rap IS about drugs and sex, but then, the same goes for rock, so I can't really complain. If I hear a rap song, and I like the message, or even if I disagree with the message but think its a message worth sharing, I'll probably like the song. But I don't hear a lot of songs in which that is the case- most likely because the only rap I hear is the more popular stuff, which is generally kinda meaningless.

I'm Athiest, so obviously I'm not too big on gospel music, but again- I don't dislike it or anything like that. I just like something with a little more drive, and something I can relate to.

R&B- I think R&B is really interesting, even if I don't listen to much of it. R&B/rock combos are cool...

As to your original question, I agree with you 100% on emo- emo and country are the only two genres that I absolutely detest. And I can agree with you for the most part that modern punk kinda sucks (as in, modern punk is nonexistant, it's all just pop, rock or alternative). Older punk, however, has a lot of the political messages that you are associating with rap. Take The Clash, for instance- they had a lot of great messages. Metal I can understand your disliking, because I'm not all that into numetal, but classic metal is kickass.

Personally I like punk, rock, emo, and metal and I hate rap. Everything else I can tolerate. I understand what the musicians are saying in the music that I listen to and can't understand a single word, except the foul language and slang words that I don't understand. If you look at the percentage of cd's that have parental advisories on them 90% are rap for explicit lyrics, while closer to 60-70% are rock. The men wearing makeup in rock, punk, emo, and metal bands is no different then rap stars who get platinum/gold "grills". The idea that all wear dog collars is far off. Yes, some do but it's no different then the huge gold chains(bling bling as they call it) hanging off the necks of rap stars. I feel that rock, punk, emo, metal, country, gospel, and even some pop groups deserve credit for taking the time to learn their own instruments and actually creating their own music, not sampling and mixing others work to produce their "own" music. I know that it is difficult to come up with a rap on the spot and it does take some talent to do so, but I don't view them as true musicians because they don't play instruments. When I listen to rock music, I actually here a point behind the songs. Whether they are singing about a break-up, love, the war, rape(someone getting rape not commiting one), friends, or a fun time. Very rarely do I hear a song about anything but being rich and driving nice cars, sex, or drugs like you said. I know that there are rock songs out there that are not about any of the things I mentioned, but for the most part all have a point that is clear behind them and they make me feel better if I'm upset. I am also aware that there are rap songs out there about things that I don't hear, but main stream rap(that they play on the radio) makes me ill because of the topics the discuss and I can't listen to it and I don't like my 3 year old daughter to hear this either. The beat is catchy on some of the songs though, minus the fact that they have sampled from "true" artists in my opinion. But to each their own. If you like rap fine, I like rock music and I don't like hearing people bashing on my music and the kind of lifestyle that I live, and I'm sure you feel the same way. By the way, I don't wear dog collars, or have crazy piercings, tattoos that you can see, nothing that would classify me as "Punk". I just wear normal clothes, jeans and a t shirt, chuck taylor shoes, and currently I'm wearing maternity clothes and look like a normal pregnant woman.

Rock On!!!!

I do not agree. Most music is horrible nowadays. How a performer dresses really doesn't have anything to do with how good or bad they are. Sure, they may be hard on the eyes but that shouldn't make a difference. If the lyrics of a song touch you (whether it be about world issues, sacrificing goats or drugs and money), it shouldn't matter if it's by Snoop Dogg or Iron Maiden.

Disillusioned with rock, try hard core rock-Metal. Go for the lyrics. All groups worth their salt work hard on the thought content and are more mwssage driven than the run of the mill rapper. Try Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and lately System of a Down.
Marilyn manson and co are simply ripoffs stick with the real rockers and u will find the rappers to be just puff.

Well, saying all people who like metal and rock wear dog chains and finger paint is the exact same as me saying all rap people talk like they want to be african-american and wear sideways caps and baggy jeans, its stereotyping...plus there are different forms of rock, they arent all metal or hard or emo or whatever, its all opinions
