Personal Answering Machine - YES!!!

Business Answering Machine - not so much. Keep it professional. Do not offend. Regardless of your personal beliefs, feelings etc.. your job is to MAKE MONEY. The average number of people that go to a funeral is 250. the average number of people on each side of a wedding party is 250... etc. In other words, Each person normally "knows" or "is aquainted with" roughly 250 people. You piss of some mexican client, customer, etc.. you have potentially lost 250 sales/contacts. (oh yeah.. and each one of those people is worth 250 too.) get the picture?

Your answering machine should be:
1. Short.
2. Clear.
3. Make people want to leave a message or call you back because its not cliche'
4. don't state the obvious: I'm either on the phone or not here right now... please leave a BLAH BLAH BLAH

5. try something like this:
Hello, this is John, I've been waiting for you to call me all this time and the second you do, I happen to be away. At least do me a favor and let me know how I can call you back BEEEEEEP

Keep your message professional, yet not cliche'. I don't care what industry you work in. this is ALWAYS better than bland crappy "im not in right now please leave your name blah blah blah"

In addition, don't tell me the freakin time/date when I call. I KNOW what time/day it is.

I hope I could help. this is only Answering Machines 101.
