In addition to speaking with the hotel, check with your tour company if you are using one.

Tape their doors shut. If the tape is broken they opened their door. The downside to that is you have to go to ALL of their rooms and tape them in, then go and let them out each morning. That stinks! But, I have done it and it was worth it for the peace of mind.

I know most answers are the same, go through the motel. Indeed that is the way to go. Most hotels will include it in the contract. We go on trips every year with our students, we've gone all over and do it this way each time.

We no longer use tour companies, having done it so much ourselves, however, even if you do they still book through the motel.

Always, always, check about a week before you go that this (and other details) are taken care of. The security is the one most often left and forgotten.

Even with guards kids may try, of course threats work great. Open your door after . . . and you can sleep on the floor in my room . . . you can stand in the hall until . . . tomorrow you shadow me . . . etc.

Have fun!! We just got back from our trip, the guard was three hours late (arrived at 1:00).
