Are you really the child or the mom? Many parents don't like their children getting homework because they know they have to spend the time making sure they do it. Many parents get angry and want to do the assignment for their child so their child gets a better grade.
Yes, second grade is harder because the children need to learn to take more responsibility for their work and be more independent during work time. Be patient and ask for help! This is the grade that builds on all the foundation that was supposed to be learned in grade 1. If you weren't ready for first grade and then was passed on to second you will find it very hard. Each grade builds on the year before. (If you indeed are not the child then be wary if your child is having great difficulty with grade 2 homework. Make an appointment to see the teacher early in the year. Don't let your child be frustrated and hate school. He/ she may need a tutor or may just be in the wrong grade. It's not too late to go back to grade 1. It's been done many times and with a positive attitude on the parents part it works out for the best!)

why are you asking about second grade, mostly everyone on yahoo answers is over that stage, but every year there's going tto be a change

The spelling part is a real killer. I am not surprised that some 2nd graders can't spell to save their teeny as**s.
