Lewis is right - we were staying there for over a year and everything was just expensive - for example if you pay 99c for a Mac, you would pay 99p for a Mac there as well!
Some suggestions -
Buy an Oyster prepaid card - travel in the tube and bus is cheaper than buying tix daily.
Save up for 1 good meal at the end of your day - other than that eat mac/ hot dog/ fish n chips during the day - that way you will get to eat good food as well (which London has plenty)
Carry your own drinking water and snacks to minimize expenses.
if you plan sightseeing - keep an entire day for hop on hop off buses - that way you maximize your expenses. Also most of the museums are free (Natural History, National Gallery, British Museum, Science Museum) - try to see them if possible, as they have some of the finest collections.
Lastminute.com has some good deals of theatre+ restauranst as well - in case you would want 2 see a play.
In case you want to buy clothes - here are some low cost options -
You will get some decent everyday clothes from Primark which is comparable (pricewise) to clothes here.
Also there is a Sunday market opposite Wembley Park station Sunday morning - you will get all sorts of stuff there - from clothes, to outerwear, to handbags and trinkets - all at low prices and you can also bargain there.

London is very expensive so make sure you take lots of money with you.
As a rule, the further away from the centre you are, the better value the food is and therefore will be cheaper, although there are a few decent cheap places if you look for them. Try the Stockpot restaurant in Soho for starters - proper home cooked food and decent prices.
As a guide - a novel would be roughly between £6.99 - £8.99
A branded/designer t-shirt could be anything from £15 - £30 depending on where it is from.
There are obviously cheaper places but this is just a guide.
And don't bother buying crap from souvenir shops - they're a rip off and you'll just be wasting your money.

I would get a credit card. You get better exchange rates. Even a prepaid card would be pretty good. I don't like to travel in Europe with lots of cash. Figure at least $60 - 80 (us) a day for food, and put some extra $ in for some nice dinners. Then there is the whole souvenier thing. Set a budget for yourself. Maybe ask your parents for help deciding on an appropriate amount. You also have to consider museum admissions, etc, unless that is part of a tour you are taking.
Have a great time.

I've traveled to London twice thus far. The prices in London are higher than here in the states....the best rule I can give is remember that everything is just about double of what you would pay here.....for example a shirt there may cost 10pounds...which is equal to about 18 dollars here...... What I did was set a certain amount I wanted to spend and doubled it.......if going to take for example 500 dollars....figure on spending in actuality 900 or so. Hope this helps ya....and have a great time....the place is fantastic.

well it depends where u eat... for example a coffee in most places in london is about £2.70 thats just a reg coffee, a jacket potatoe from covent garden indoor market with cream cheese and chives is like £4.80 travel is expensive for a day travel pass zones 1-6 is like £8 pounds, water bottles are like £1.59 wheras if u go somewhere outside of londonyou can take atleast 50% of those prices.... to buy souveinners go to leicester sq and go to the big shop on the corner, they are resonable. if u want your picture drawn go to picadily circus and BARTER you might get a good bargain... flirting usually knocks a few pennies of the bill too! and if your not happy cause a seen and complain that sometime works too!
come to newcastle.... the coffees only 79p,
have a safe trip! make sure u got the millenium eye!

My rule of thumb is that just about everything costs double what it does in the USA. Hotel rooms are hard to equate though. More than double as compared to most large US cities, but if you are willing to stay in a crappy, little room (that you would be afraid on staying at in the US because you would suspect drug dealers etc.), you can find reasonable rates (and the room will be in a nice neighborhood and safe actually)

Just bring a credit card or atm card and you can get money out as you need it.
If you can't do that, then I would suggest you bring 100 pounds for each day, which will cover a cheap hotel, food, drinks and souvenirs

It truly relies upon on the position you'll stay and how a lot you want to purchase. i'd carry 500 funds for souveniers for sure you may ought to rework that into kilos.
