Actually it involved a few young girls who accused a bunch of random people who are old, sweet, young, colored, w/e. Anyways these girls accuses them for practicing 'witch craft' For example Rebecca Nurse was and elder woman who was accused by young girls who claimed she practiced witch craft and was hung on a tree for it. What the judge didnt know was that these girls were fibbing and turning these people's lives into a death game. Which is sad because these girls who accused innocent people put them in their graves. Anyways if you want more detail i suggest you watch, "The Crucible" which is a good movie. Or read up on the "crucible" good book too lol. Anyways good luck.I hope i could help.

Twenty-four innocent victims lost their lives in the Salem witchcraft hysteria.
Life in 1692 Salem was difficult. Most families had to support themselves, making their own clothes, planting vegetables, raising meat. Farming was often a painstaking task in the harsh climate and rough, rocky terrain—and a drought or flood could ruin a year’s harvest. An epidemic of smallpox could kill a family. In a world where people saw the Devil lurking behind every misfortune, it is little wonder they believed evil spirits were at work.
It all started with Tituba, a Caribbean slave, entertaining little girls by her kitchen fireplace with fortune telling, magic and stories from her native island of Barbados. Two of the girls, Betty Parris and Abigail Williams later developed signs of hysteria, and this marked the beginning of the witch hunt.
You should check out this website to get all the details. It also features a 6 minute movie that gives a very good account of what happened.

The people of Salem village believed there were witches running loose, practicing witchcraft- they got this idea when one Indian slave, Tituba, told lots of stories about magic to 6 girls. They then started accusing random figures of practicing witchcraft. Salem village persecuted and killed many innocent people, but several years later, they realized what they'd done.

I just studied this!
Okay these little girls' nanny was telling the two little girls a story from where she came. Then they started to act the story out. No one had ever seen this type of behavior before, and everyone assumed it was witchcraft. So two little girls started a whole witch Trial.

people got hysterical; they started accusing each other of witchcraft. The only way to avoid torture was generally to name other witches, spreading the hysteria further and further. Town officials and judges were just as caught up in the hysteria - especially the clergy. Many people were put to death by hanging.
