I had the same problem, my PS2 wouldn't read Lego Star Wars, so here's what you do: take it to a GameStop or EBGames and trade it in for a different one. I got mine for only $20 and it reads every disc.

It sounds like you need to buy a new PS2. I have one of the new smaller PS2s and it's pretty good. Either than or wait for the PS3 to come out and pay $500 or so.

I honestly don't know. I never mess with the system itself. Although I have a funny story about my FF7... After two years I finally decided to play through it again. First disc was in decent condition. Kept freezing. I get mad. Throw the disc around, fingerprint it up, drag it over desk. Yeah. Put it in. Works perfectly now in horrid conditions... Theory. Lasers work in myserious ways... If they have NO scratches then I don't know what to tell ya. Just try cleaning the discs up with one of the scratch removers.

I wish I could help, but I can't. Maybe its time for an upgrade?! Trust me! Buying a new PS2 is gonna be so much cheaper than buying the PS3 when it comes out.

Good luck with your PS2!!
P.S. I love Final Fantasy 7!!!
