I heard these older models were circulating in pdf format. I found one for my 2003 Yamaha Virago, but can't locate this one.

cough up a few bucks and buy one from ebay.
skip lunch for 2 days and you can buy one -$15.00

Some of the sellers have downloadable formats so you can get it within a day of paying for it.

Unless someone gives you one that they bought, legally, NO. Its copyright material and with the new digital rights management (which was forced through by greed in Holywood) you could be fined up to $250,000 and spend a couple of years in jail.
This probably applies to the older manuals as well, but I believe Yamaha may be turning a blind eye to older stuff in the hope you'll move on to something newer (has you did)
Suzuki no longer supply digital manuals( on CD) for this very reason, you can only get them in printed form
The V-star is pretty much the old (1980's) XV535 with some extra bits bolted on to make it 'new'

If you search through the web sometimes they will post PDF downloads on a Yamaha forum for your bike. It might take a while to get but it is free.
I have a 04 gixxer and was lucky to download the whole service manual, if you have a dial up conn good luck.

nicely first of all battery. do no longer attempt to bounce a bike. Use clean gas and verify oil. If it turns over reliable and it has clean gas then it would attempt to fireside. If no longer something then verify fireplace on your plug by sticking a screw motive force contained in the right of the plug twine and carry the screw motive force shaft close to a clean metallic floor and look ahead to a spark once you tun over the engine.
