I am applying to grad school for spanish linguistics and the general GRE is not a requirement, but I would like to take a spanish proficiency test. The university I am applying to has GRE spanish subject tests as options that you can select on a drop down menu, so that indicates to me that they exist; however, they are not on the GRE website. Anyone know??

not yet, but I'm sure they're working on it since the SAT now has Spanish as a subject test. A good test to take for proficiency is the TOPT. Although, now that I think of it I think that TOPT stands for TEXAS oral proficiency test. But I'm sure every state has an equivalent.

I would like a spanish GRE. I'm a spanish major and I'd rather take that than the General GRE math section.

According to the GRE Web site, there is not a Spanish subect test.

However, from searching the web, there is an organization, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages - ACTFL, that has proficiency testing: http://www.actfl.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3348
